Using an MP3 File as a Ringtone - Android OS Tips and Tricks

Ringtones are what you hear when your phone rings when someone is calling you. The sounds can range from music, to special effects sounds to something that sounds like an actual phone ringing. Most phones have built in ringtones so you can change it from the default to something you like better. Some phones even let you choose different ringtones for different people so when someone calls you will know who it is by the ringtone.
If you don't like the default Android ringtones on your phone then it's possible to use your favorite MP3 song or other audio sound as a ringtone. This is a fairly straightforward process and pretty easy to do.
All you need to do is find the MP3 on your computer and copy it to your phone's SD card. To do this simply connect your USB cable to your phone and turn on its USB storage feature. Then browse to your SD card and create a new folder called ringtones if there is not one there already. Then copy the MP3 files to that directory and unmount (disconnect) your SD card so you are not connected to your computer anymore.

On your phone go to Settings, Sounds and then Phone Ringtone and your new ringtone should be listed as an available choice.

Keep in mind that if you rename the MP3 file on your computer but not the MP3 tag information then the ringtone will not show up with your new file name. You need to make sure to change the information on the file by right clicking it and choosing Properties. Then go to the Details tab and make sure the Title section says what you want the ringtone to be called.

After you get this setup you can enjoy your new ringtones made from your favorite songs.
