Automatically backup your photos to the cloud

Problem

If you are like many other Android phone users, you probably love using your phone to take a lot of pictures.  In fact, your phone may have practically replaced your old point-and-shoot camera because your phone can do pretty much anything the camera can.  The problem is, how do you back up all of your photos as you take them?
Sure you can plug the phone into your computer, use it as a portable drive, and copy all your photos that way, but isn’t that kind of a hassle?  What if you don’t want them on your computer but backed up in your Google Picasa or Facebook account?

Solution

PhotoCloud is a free Android app that monitors your photo gallery folder (or whatever folder you choose) on your phone and when it detects a new photo taken, it uploads it to the cloud for you.  After the initial setup, this is all done behind the scenes.  You have the choice of having your photos uploaded to a Google Picasa album, your Facebook account, or the Russian social network service Vkontakte.  You can have it only upload when there is a WiFi connection available, perhaps saving you from using up bandwidth on your mobile plan.

Pros

  • Easy to set up
  • Works behind the scenes saving you from any worry
  • No noticeable eating of resources
  • Photos neatly placed in a single “Dropbox” folder waiting for your further organizing
Cons
  • At first I kept getting a failed login error even though it was still working but it works fine now
  • No choice of album folder to upload to

Conclusion

If you are looking for a way to have your photos automatically backed up to the cloud, PhotoCloud could be just the app you’ve been looking for.  Fairly easy to set up and super easy to use.
