With more and more people doing business on the road there is an increasing need to have connectivity to the office in case you need to look up some information in a file or use a program that runs on your desktop computer etc. There are many options for PC to PC remote access capability but many people rely on their smartphone or tablet as their on the road work tool.
LogMeIn Ignition for Android offers you the ability to remotely control your computer from your Android phone or tablet over the internet. This is the same service LogMeIn has available to control a computer from another computer over the internet but designed for your Android instead.
LogMeIn Ignition allows you to do almost everything you could as if you were sitting in front of your computer itself. You can do things like open documents and pictures, check your email and run all of the programs you have installed on your computer. Of course the screen will be much smaller and it's not as smooth as if you were on the actual computer itself but it comes in handy if you need to access your computer in a pinch.
Once you install the app and login with your LogMeIn account you will see a listing of your remote computers. The active computers will be blue and the inactive computers gray.
After you login to a computer you will be shown a screen with some hints that tell you how to navigate around your remote computer once you are connected. You can turn this hint screen off in the options.
Then when you make your connection you will see the remote computer's desktop and be able to use the computer as if you were sitting in front of it. You can pinch zoom in and out and there are icons on the bottom that help you do things such as zoom and change mouse and keyboard functions.
LogMeIn Ignition for Android is very configurable as well. To get to the settings press your menu key or the settings icon on the right side of the screen while logged into the remote computer. You will be able to change things such as the color quality, screen resolution, network speed, scroll mode, keyboard lock and more.
LogMeIn Ignition for Android does not offer a free version like the PC to PC version but you can buy it for only $29.95 from their website and you can find the app in the Android Market.
