Remote Web Desktop - Android App and Game Tips and Tricks

With the popularity of smartphones and tablets on the rise it was only a matter of time before someone decided that we need to combine our smartphones with our desktop computers. Then again smartphones and tablets are starting to become many people's primary source for doing work and Internet access.
Remote Web Desktop for Android lets you control your phone and many of its features from a web browser with your computer. You may ask why anyone would need to do this. The answer is you really don't but it's kind of cool and allows you to do some interesting things. If you think about it, how many Android apps do you have on your device that are really necessary?
Remote Web Desktop can connect to your computer using USB, Wi-Fi or your 3G\4G connection. It lets you do several things with your phone via your computer. Some of the things you can do include:
  • Send text messages from your computer so you can use your keyboard to type them faster
  • Browse your phone’s files and open or copy them to your computer
  • View your camera remotely which could be fun or get you in trouble using the webcam feature
  • Transfer files via FTP between your device and computer
  • Remote control your phone with your computer although you need to be rooted to do this
  • Use the Wi-Fi keyboard to type on your phone using your computer’s keyboard
  • Take screen captures of your device’s screen but you need to be rooted to do this as well
  • Share your clipboard between your device and computer
  • Set your phone’s wallpaper by uploading a picture from your computer
  • Use the personal web server to serve your web pages on your phone
Once you start the server on your phone it will give you a URL that you will put into your web browser and login with the password you created. Then you will see your Android Desktop with your icons that you can click on to perform various tasks.

Here is an example of the text messaging feature. It will show all the current text conversations you have on your device as well as let you do new messages. You can also bring up your contacts to make it easy to start a new text message.

The Remote Web Desktop app has 3 parts to it. The first is the Web Desktop where you will configure and start the server which allows you to connect to your device with your computer. The FTP Server section is where you can setup an FTP server to transfer files between your device and computer. Finally the App Manager component is used to manage your installed apps just like the built in Android app manager. You can do things such as force stop apps as well as uninstall them.

There is a free version of the Remote Web Desktop as well as a pay for version which offers more features such as Secure HTTP.
