Webroot Security for Android - Android App and Game Tips and Tricks

With the increasing numbers of threats geared towards the Android operating system it's a good idea to find some protection for your smartphone or tablet. Of course the best protection is to be careful of what you do with your device and what apps you install. And try and stay away from apps that you can download off of websites and forums unless it's an official type site like the Android Market website.
Webroot Security for Android offers you a free way to protect your computer from viruses and malware as well as a way to help you find your phone if you lose it by using your phone's built in GPS. It even has a feature to block unwanted calls and text messages.
After installing Webroot, the first thing you will be asked to do is create a Webroot account if you don't already have one. After you create an account or login it will perform an initial virus scan on your device and show you the results. Webroot Security for Android
After the scan is complete you can go about configuring the Webroot app. The app is broken down into 4 main sections.
Antivirus
The antivirus component is used to perform manual or automatic scans of your device. These scans can also be scheduled for hourly, daily or weekly scans. You can also schedule the definitions update frequency as well. You can also manage your ignored and quarantined items If any are found on your device.
Webroot also contains various protection or "Shield" settings. The Install Shield feature will scan new apps when you install them. The File System Shield will scan files as you download or modify them. The Execution Shield scans apps whenever you run them.
Lost Device Protection
If your Android is lost or stolen then it's possible to send a text message from another phone allowing you to remotely locate or lock your device. You can even delete personal data from the device if necessary. Keep in mind that you will need to know your Webroot password to do this. To perform the functions on your phone remotely you would send it a text message with one of the following commands.
  • Lock (your password)
  • Wipe (your password) – Available on the pay for version only
  • Locate (your password)
  • Scream (your password) – makes a loud sound from your device so you can find it if it’s close by
Secure Web Browsing
Secure Web Browsing blocks harmful websites from loading before your device has a chance to access them. If the site is known to have malware or spyware then you will get a warning and ask you what you want to do. Your choices include block the site, ignore the alert and continue to the site, or permanently ignore the alert and continue to the site. There is also an option to view your ignored websites and remove them from the list if you change your mind.
Call/SMS Blocking
This feature lets you filter or block calls or text messages from people you don't want to talk to or others trying to spam your phone. Numbers added to your block list are sent right to voicemail when that number tries to call your phone. Text messages from blocked numbers are blocked and don't make it to your phone. There is also an option to block calls from unidentified callers with no caller ID. You can also manage your blocked call list as well as view a log of blocked calls or text messages.
