Are midrange Android mobiles worth the sacrifice?

When buying an Android mobile, you need to make a decision. Would you rather save money and sacrifice the quality of your mobile, or would you rather buy the best no matter the cost.
Tested.com have a great article which explains the disadvantages of buying a mid-range device rather than a high-end device. The article highlights the following disadvantages of buying a mid-range mobile over a high-end one:
  • Smaller, lower quality screen
  • Slower chips and processor – Device will run slower and games will be choppier. (I can vouch for this. My old HTC Hero with a low end processor struggled with playing many games such as Fruit Ninja)
  • Lower quality camera – Not necessarily less megapixels but still lower quality
  • Lack of front facing camera
  • Less Android updates
The article concludes that while the tradeoffs are simply not worth it for Android enthusiasts, mid-range devices make great first Android mobiles. What do you think?
