Top 3 Android Podcast Players

I have talked about my podcast player on choice, DoggCatcher, quite a bit on AndroidTipGuys. In all honesty, I haven’t really spent much time on other podcast players and have just stuck with my faithful DoggCatcher. I have since used many different podcast players and here are my top 3.

1. BeyondPod $6.99 US (£4.32 UK)

BeyondPod is a podcast player which is very similar to DoggCatcher. It has a great User interface and has a directory with nearly every podcast available. The app makes downloading and playing podcasts very easy. BeyondPod also has a tablet version available so those of you with tablets will love this app.

Pros

• User interface – BeyondPod is very easy to use and looks great.
• Huge directory – The podcast directory for BeyondPod is very large so you should be able to find every podcast you want.
• Streaming – BeyondPod gives you the option to stream podcasts rather than download them. The streaming is very good with very little buffering.
• Free app available – There is a free version of BeyondPod which will be more than sufficient for most users.
• Presto support - BeyondPod also includes Presto support so you can play podcasts at a faster speed.
• Customizable – There are a huge amount of settings which let you customize the app a huge amount.
• Tablet support – BeyondPod supports tablets so you should have a great experience when using the app on an Android tablet.

2. DoggCatcher $6.99 US (£4.32 UK)

DoggCatcher is one of the most popular podcast players available for Android. DoggCatcher is very feature rich and lets you find, download and play podcasts. The app has a huge directory of podcasts so you should be able to find just about any podcast out there. The app lets you subscribe to podcasts so it is very easy to download and play your favourite podcasts. DoggCatcher supports the Presto app which will allow you to speed up podcasts by up to 2x for $3.99 US (£2.47 UK). The app has a huge amount of settings so it is easy to customize the app pretty much to your liking.

Pros

• User interface – DoggCatcher is not only easy to use but looks nice.
• Huge directory – You should be able to find pretty much every podcast you want to listen to in the directory.
• Customizable – There are a huge amount of settings which let you customize the app a huge amount.
• Presto support – The app supports Presto so you can listen to podcasts at a faster speed.

Cons

• No free app – There is no feature limited free version of DoggCatcher. This means that you have 15 minutes to decide if you like the app otherwise you will not be able to get your money back.

3. PodTrapper $6.99 US (£4.32 UK)

PodTrapper is another popular podcast player. It has a podcast directory and also has presto support. Personally, I don’t like the User interface. I didn’t find it completely intuitive and felt it looked a bit old fashioned. Don’t take my word for it though, the app has high ratings and I haven’t seen anyone complain about the interface, you may find that you prefer it.

Pros

• Car mode – PodTrapper includes car mode which makes the buttons giant so they are easy to press in a car.
• Large directory – You should also be able to download any podcast you want from the Podtrapper directory.
• Customizable – There are a huge amount of settings which let you customize the app a huge amount.
• Presto support - The app supports Presto so you will be able to play podcasts at a faster speed.

Cons

• User Interface – The User Interface isn’t very good when you compare it to my other two favourite podcast players. The app looks a bit old fashioned and isn’t so intuitive.

Conclusion

All three of these podcast players are very capable. They all include a large directory of podcasts so you will never run out of podcasts to listen to. Also, the apps play podcasts very well and all support Presto so can play the podcasts at a faster speed. However, I do prefer the interface of DoggCatcher and BeyondPod as the interface of PodTrapper is a little bit old fashioned. Give them a go and tell us what you think!
